That theater has an intimacy unlike any other. But as the play began and picked up momentum, it stopped mattering to me.
Others had it worse and could see less than half. From where I was standing, in the second row from the front, I could see about 3/4 of the stage, some of it being obscured by the beautiful chandeliers. We all had tickets for the standing room in the balcony. Last night we had the privilege of seeing 'Tis Pity She's A Whore in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. I use that term loosely, he seemed more like a coach- looming terrifyingly in the corner of the room, his jaw clenched, following along diligently in the script. Oh, and non other than Tim Carroll directed it. Chopsticks and a grain of rice became a letter, a bent spatula became a sword, a pack of kleenex became a murder weapon, an egg became the infant daughter of Pericles. The courage and vulnerability it takes for an actor to find truth in whatever they're given, whatever offer is made to them, is breathtaking to watch. I feared the use of the random items as props would be gimmick-y, but it really wasn't. The result is something very simple, very stripped down, which ends up revealing what is essential to the play. They find out their role a week or so before. Apparently, they don't do any traditional rehearsing of the play. Each audience member was encouraged to bring a couple of items for the actors to use as props throughout the show.

The audience consisted of all Globe education students, plus some Globe employees, teachers and actors. They performed it in Big Park, the almost completely bare rehearsal room where we typically have class.
Colin has worked with the company for a long time, and speaks very highly of them, though he wasn't in this production. These delicacies will grant health bonuses, power boosts and secret boons. On Wednesday evening, we had the privilege of seeing a wonderful production of Pericles, done by a company called The Factory.
